Harlem: Charles’ Country Pan Fried Chicken

Would you like to hear my idea of a perfect Manhattan morning? Wake up for Sunday mass, put on a floral dress, hop on your bike with your closest friends.  Ride your bikes from Soho, through the West village, through Chelsea, through Midtown, through Central Park, through the Upper West Side, until you reach Harlem.  Once in Harlem, (respectfully) sneak into Sunday mass at the Abyssinian Baptist Church and let the angelic voices of the gospel choir both fill your ears, raise your spirits, and get your appetite ready for FRIED CHICKEN.  Go straight from mass to Charles’ Country Pan Fried Chicken on Frederick Douglas Blvd @ 151st Street.  Eat the crispiest, most succulent, perfectly golden pan fried chicken you’ve ever bit into.  And for the record, yes, I think food adventures should have themes :)

Pan-fried

Macaroni and cheese: Candied yams

Not Charles himself (he was out that day, and I think he now owns a few other restaurants in NYC), but this man sure does make good fried chicken
